UPSTATE INDOOR LACROSSE SWEEPS CHAMPIONSHIPS
(March 5, 2013)… After holding the inaugural Knighthawks Upstate Indoor Lacrosse Championships at
The Blue Cross Arena the previous week, teams from the UIL traveled to take part in the First Annual
Bucksmont Indoor Lacrosse Tourney.
On Sunday, the three teams captured Championships in the U13, U15 and High School divisions at the
tournament at Bucksmont Indoor Sports Complex. The event sponsored by American Indoor Lacrosse
was held in Hatfield, Pa.
"It was a great showing by all three teams on Sunday," said Head Coach Kevin McMaster. "Everything
was clicking between the boys. They put in so much hard work during the regular season and it was nice
to see everything pay off.”
Upstate Indoor Lacrosse draws players from Monroe, Wayne, Wyoming, Cayuga, Seneca, Onondaga and
Erie counties. In January, the Knighthawks partnered with Upstate Indoor Lacrosse to help create the
next generation of professional lacrosse players. As part of the two-year deal, Upstate Indoor Lacrosse
serves as the exclusive indoor youth training organization of the Knighthawks.
On Sunday, some of the future stars of Rochester lacrosse put on a display in Hatfield. The U13 team
raced through the preliminary round games, opening the tournament with an 11-7 win over American
Indoor Lacrosse Bucksmont. In the second contest, UIL edged Rising Suns 13-10 before downing
Ridgewood 16-6. In the Championship Game, the Upstate Indoor Lacrosse battled the Rising Suns and
earned another three-goal victory, winning 9-6.
In the U15 Division, the UIL team raced through their first three games, winning by scores of 15-8, 10-1
and 10-1. In the Championship Game, Upstate Indoor Lacrosse scored a tournament-high 18 goals in an
18-7 victory over American Indoor Lacrosse Bucksmont.
"Transition was the key for us," said Head Coach AJ Laffin. "The players were setting up their offensive
alleys and we even threw in a little zone defense that helped us hold some of the teams to as little as
one goal. We couldn't be any more proud of our organization. These guys really deserved every goal on
Sunday.”
In the High School Division, the UIL team enjoyed similar success as it completed impressive wins over
Lower Marion (15-4), Bucksmont House (17-6) and Abbey Wood (12-4). In the title game, Upstate Indoor
Lacrosse defeated Lower Marion for a second time, 12-4. With Championships in all three divisions,
McMaster and Laffin applauded the efforts of the kids and their families.
"This event could not have been possible without the support of the parents and players. Thank you
again,” said the UIL coaches.
